SHRI RAM-BHAKTA HANUMAN

Shri Hanumaanji is known to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is believed that when Lord Vishnu took birth, in the form of Ram to vanish, the greatest demon king Ravan, the other Gods also born in monkey and bear races to help him. God Sheshnag and Lord Shiva incarnated as Lakshman and Hanuman respectively.

Vanar-Raj kesari was the father of Shri Hanumanji, and his mother’s name was Anjana alias Anjani. Kesari was a Vanar-king, as such he is called Vanar-Raj. He had no child, hence his wife Anjana, observed self-mortification to have a child, she menaced herself, worshipping Lord Shiva to be booned for a son. Lord Shiva fulfilled her desire and He himself took birth in the form of her son Shri Hanuman. The God of winds, Pawan Dev also blessed Anjana to have a great son unparalleled in strength and wisdom. Hence the son of Anjana is also called Pawan-Putra and Vayu-Putra.

He was born on the full moon day (Purnima) of the month Chaitra on Tuesday. That is why, every year when Chaitra month’s full moon day arrives, his birth-day is ceremonised, which is called shri Hanuman Jayanti and Tuesday is considered very auspicious day to worship Hanumanji.

One day in his childhood, when Hanumanji saw the sun rising on the eastern horizon he thought it to be a red fruit. He at once lept towards the sky to have the hanging red fruit there. And flying in the sky, reached near the sun and put it in his mouth. This caused darkness, in all the three worlds. Seeing this Lord Indra, struck Hanuman by his vajra, Been hart, Hanuman fell down to the earth unconscious. Pawan, by whose blessings, Hanuman ji took birth enraged furiously. As he could not tolerate the misdeed of Indra. He atonce, ceased to be blowing, which sent the world into a very miserable condition. All the beings began to sink into death. Then the Gods, Brahma, Vishnu and Indra along with other Gods prayed the wind God Pawan Dev, and asked him to cool down withdrawing his curse on the world. They gave Hanuman new life, which pleased Pawan Dev, and he began to blow again, giving new life to the world.

The Vajra of Indra, hurt the Chin of the child, causing it to be deshaped, therefore he was named Hanuman. Hanu means Chin. His other names are Bajrang, Bajrangwali, Anjaneya and Anjani Kumar, Anjani Putra, Vayu putra, Pavan putra, Vayu nandan, Shanker suvan, Kesari Nandan, Kesriputra, Ramdas, Ramdoot, Hanumant, Vanar-raj etc.

Kesari, the king of Vanars was the friend and ally of Vanarpati BAALI the great king of Vanars. His younger brother was Sugreev. He became his minister.

Due to some misunderstanding, Baali and Sugreev did not remain on brotherly terms. Baali became enemy of his younger brother and he kicked him out of his kingdom. Sugreev began to live at Rishymook mountain with his ministers, Hanuman also went with him.

When he was living on this mountain, Shri Ram and Laxman were seen by him wandering in the woods. Sugreev, fearing that his brother might had sent them to kill him, sent Hanuman to find out the reality. He went to them in a Brahmin attire and contacted the two brothers. He could knew, that, the wife of Ram was kidnapped by Ravan, the demon-king. They were the sons of Maharaj Dasharath of Ayodhya, who was obliged to give three boons to his favourite queen Kaikayee. And they had come to live in forests because, their stepmother Kaikayee demanded Ram’s expulsion from Ayodhya to live him in forests for fourteen years.

Hanuman promised them to help in search of Sita. And he carried both the brothers, getting them climbed on his shoulders. He also told them his identity and all about Baali and Sugreev. He became the mediator between Sugreev and Shri Ram resulting in to a deep friendship between Sugreev and Ram. Shri Ram promised to kill Baali. Sugreev also promised to search Sita.

Shri Ram killed Baali, and enthroned Sugreev on the throne of Vanars. Sugreev sent powerful and wise persons of his kingdom in search of Sita. Hanuman Ji and the son of Baali, Angad were also sent in south. On their way to south, they met Sampati who was the brother of Jataau. They informed Sampati, that his brother Jataau was killed by Ravan, when he tried to save Sita. Sampati was an old Gidha, and so the Jataau was. Both the brothers had a very long life. Now they were old. When Sampati heard the death of his brother he deeply sunk into grief.

He told Hanuman and Angad that he could see, where Sita had been kept in the capital of Ravan. She was in Lanka.

Then the searching party leaded by Jamvant, th most strong and brave person of the bear race, reached on the seashore. Jamvant encouraged Hanuman Ji to give the Jump on to Lanka. Hanuman Ji, when being encouraged as such, filled with the lost powers, which were snatched from him, when he was a child, by the curse of a Rishi (SAINT), but he was also booned by the same RISHI, that he would get all the lost powers, when he would be encouraged by anybody memorizing him about his powers. He crossed the vast sea taking a long great jump and met Shri Sita Ji and gave her the message of Shri Ram.

On this occasion he also burnt Lanka and drew Bhibhishan, the younger brother of Ravan to the side of Shri Ram. Bhibhishan tried to advise his brother Ravan who did not give any heed to his advice.

Hanumanji after burning Lanka and killing one of the sons of Ravan, Akshaya Kumar, returned to Ram, jumping over the sea again and gave the message of Sita to Shri Ram.

Shri Ram crossed the sea, after making bridge over it and met Ravan in the battle-field out of Lanka the capital city of Ravan.

Hanumanji fought a very brave fight in this war. He was such a brave person, that he caused even Ravan, unconscious by one stroke of his fist. When Laxman was hurt by Meghnath, the bravest son of Ravan, by Shakti (the most terrible weapon, which he had) and Laxman became lifeless, Hanumanji fetched Sanjeevani Booti from Himalayas in a very short duration. He flied to Himalayas in the night and returned back before morning, that gave new life to Laxman.

After killing Ravan, and giving the throne of Lanka, to Bhibhishan, when Ram returned to Ayodhya, all the Vanars also went with him. Hanumanji had became a deep devotee to Shri Ram, hence all the Vanars returned back after some time from Ayodhya, but Shri Hanumanji was permitted by Sugreev to live in Ayodhya to serve Shri Ram, seeing his desire to stay there.

As is booned by the Gods, Hanumanji is to remain alive till this universe will remain. Such was the boon of Shri Sitaji also, when Hanumanji met her in Ashok vatika, where Ravan kept her out of his palace.

This is the most important incident of Hanumanji’s life which took place is Treta Yug, the second of the four Yugs of time passage.

In Dwapar Yug, when Lord Vishnu incarnated again-again as Lord Krishna, and Mahabharata War took place once Hanumanji met his younger brother Bheem in the way when he was going to bring flowers from the Gandhava’s garden. Bhim one of the Pandavas, was his younger brother, the most powerful person of his times. He was also born to Kunti by the blessing of the wind God. Hanumanji, with a view to vanish his pride of strength laid himself on his way, leaving no margin to go ahead. In the disguise of an old monkey he stretched his tail on the path. When Bhim reached there he asked the old monkey to get his tail aside so that he could go onward. Hanumanji told him that he was an old person, could not lift his tail he might be pleased if he could get it himself. Therefore then Bhim, tried to lift the tail, but he, even being the strongest person of that age, could not be successful to move the stretched tail aside. Then he was dismayed of his failure. Then Hanumanji told him that he should not be proud of his strength and he also revealed his identity coming to his real form. Both the brothers embraced each other. Hanumanji promised him to have the seat on the flag of Arjun’s war chariot, if there would be a war with Kauravas. He fulfilled his promise in the war of Mahabharat. At that time his roaring was more than enough to loose the enemies their lives.

A very vivid description is found in Purans of Hanumanji’s life. Ramayan also narrates his bold deeds in detail. He is a living god on this earth. If he is worshipped, every desire of the devotee is fulfilled.

He is a celibate all through his life while worshipping him, it is necessary to remain celebate. Tuesday, as is said, is the auspicious day to worship him. His diety should be applied vermilion mixed with Ghee and be offered sweets made of gram corn on this day. His devotee should also keep fast and then in the and of the day, he should be offered Pooja (adoration).

It is a must that, while starting adoration of any God, (such is the performance in Hanumanji’s case too) Ganeshji should be venerated first by reciting his hymn.

However in case of, not having in this form also, this can he painted in front of Diety by wheat flour, Roli, Handi (Turmeric) powder or Rice.

Note: Here are some significant-mythical verses also to worship Shri Hanumanji, to please him, to get special desired fulfilled. When Hanumanji is to be worshipped for the fulfillment of such desires, it is called spiritual endeavour or performance. Its process should be learnt from a competent Teacher (Guru) and this should be done in his direction.
